I'm Amaya Waymon, a sophomore at James S. Rickards High School. I enjoy painting, reading, and liturgical dancing. I'm a low test taker and a sexual assault survivor. I always remind myself that my past doesn't determine my now. I have a lot in store for my future and I won't let anyone deter me from it.
My organization is called The Girl Flo. The Girl Flo is to provide for female students who may have an emergency, or those who lack access to menstrual products. The primary purpose is to make sure female students and girls understand resources are provided. Menstruation matters and it shouldn't be taboo.
My upcoming plans for The Girl Flo is to get more people to share personal stories about menstrual equity, having a feminine product drive over the summer run through my school district, and to implement period packaging parties.
My future plan is to major in Biology on the Pre-Med track with a minor in business to become a neonatologist. Once I become a neonatologist I hope to be on a board for menstrual equity . I would like to turn my focus towards supplying the NICU moms with blessing bags.
My latest accomplishment was getting in touch with a state representative to get more information and word on seeing can feminine products be placed in all the restrooms in Florida.
The Big Look Organization has helped me to network with other organizations. As well as gave me many resources for scholarships and grants that have helped within my funding process. Big Look has helped me to literally have a Big Look with things. It's given me so many opportunities. Most importantly, I figured out how to make things work in a different way.
